Viimsi is surrounded by sea from three sides and the landscape, people and lifestyles are probably formed by rough sea winds. This area has long been connected to seaways on the Baltic Sea and the areas of Rebala and Iru, later – to the Pirita Convent and the city of Tallinn that can be seen across the bay. In Soviet times, Viimsi was the prohibited area and the centre of the prosperous Kirovi collective fishing farm. Viimsi Museums is now a place to spend time, find traces of the past and reflect on things. The Viimsi Open Air Museum is located on the picturesque beach, a couple of hundred metres towards Rohuneeme. This is definitely the best place to admire the “Baltic sprat can view” opening up towards the Old Town of Tallinn. The historical Kingu farm constitutes the main part of the museum. Kingu was a prosperous tenant farm, where fishing as well as agriculture was attended to.
The beach as well as the historical milieu of the Viimsi museums offer pleasant resting moments. Both museums offer possibilities to order excursions, organise family and business events, take picnics and participate in high-spirited folk celebrations.
