Collections

In 2003, the collections of the Viimsi Museums have about 12 200 museum pieces. The collections of the Museum of Coastal Folk, the Open Air Museum and the Naissaar Museum are accounted for as a unified whole.
The museum owns the seaside Kingu farm from the 19th-20th centuries that includes a farmhouse (with a barn), a dwelling, ancillary buildings and fishermen’s houses.
The objects collection includes fishing equipment, agricultural implements, larger and smaller household articles and commodities, including vessels for unlicensed spirit and a “spirit-belt” worn around the waist.
The textile collection includes historical costumed, carpets, napery and wicker-ware, an abundance of fantastic handicraft by local women.
The more valuable part of the photo collection includes photos expanding upon the history and people in the Viimsi area, old photo albums and negatives as well. The subject of smuggling spirit is a separate chapter here as well.
The document collection preserves contracts, bills of exchange, bonds and other documents, as well as letters and memoirs.
The museum’s small library includes museum pieces as well as handbooks and newer literature connected to the museum’s profile.
